PBS and a Minnesota-based public television station, Lakeland PBS, have filed a lawsuit against former President Donald TRUMP to block his executive order cutting federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The network alleges the move is an "existential threat" designed to punish perceived bias against conservatives.

The lawsuit claims Trump’s May 1 order violates First Amendment protections by using federal funding as leverage against editorial independence. PBS currently receives approximately $325 million annually through the CPB, accounting for 22% of its revenue—funding that flows directly to local stations nationwide.

Legal counsel Z.W. Julius Chen framed the case as a defense of public media’s constitutional safeguards. The action follows Trump’s longstanding criticism of mainstream media outlets, with PBS arguing the funding cuts represent government overreach into protected speech.
